Five steps, in order.
Nothing here is a workaround. It’s the normal path, spread across screens that are easy to miss. Step 4 is the one everybody gets stuck on.

Download the file on your phone
Tap the download button above from the phone itself, not your computer. It’s large, so use Wi-Fi if you can.

Allow installs from your browser
When you open the file, Android says the browser isn’t allowed to install apps. Tap Settings in that message and turn the switch on. It applies to the app you downloaded with, not the whole system. You can switch it off after.

Get past Play Protect
Google scans apps it hasn’t seen before and may show “Unsafe app blocked” or “App scan recommended”. That flags an unknown developer, not anything found in the file. Tap More details → Install anyway.

Allow restricted settings, the one everyone misses
On Android 13 and newer, apps from outside the Play Store can’t use the Accessibility service until you allow it. AURA needs it to see and touch the screen, so without this step the app installs but can’t do anything. The dialog reads “Restricted setting — for your security, this setting is currently unavailable.”
Do this before opening AURA’s setup. Otherwise onboarding sends you to a switch you can’t flip yet, which looks like the app is broken.Settings › Apps › AURA › ⋮ (top right) › Allow restricted settings
Your phone may ask for your PIN or fingerprint. Some brands say “Allow restricted setting” or hide it under “More”. If it isn’t there, your Android version doesn’t need it.

Open AURA and follow setup
AURA asks for what it needs, one screen at a time, and explains each before the system dialog appears. It needs four things to work at all: microphone, the floating bubble, the accessibility service and its own keyboard. Last, add an AI provider key in Settings → Agent Brain. Groq and Google Gemini both have free tiers.
Some brands add their own switches.
The tell-tale symptom: everything looks enabled and the floating bubble still never appears. Find your brand.
Xiaomi · Redmi · POCO MIUI / HyperOS
MIUI has a second, private overlay permission that Android’s switch doesn’t cover. This is the most common “the bubble doesn’t show up” report.
- Settings → Apps → Manage apps → AURA
- Tap Other permissions
- Turn on Display pop-up windows while running in background
- Also turn on Display pop-up windows if listed
- Back on the app page, turn on Autostart
OPPO · realme ColorOS
- Settings → Apps → AURA → Allow floating windows
- Turn on Allow floating windows and Display over other apps
- Settings → Battery → App battery usage → AURA → Allow background activity
- In Phone Manager, enable Auto-launch for AURA
vivo · iQOO Funtouch / OriginOS
- Settings → Apps → AURA → Permissions → Floating windows → Allow
- i Manager → App manager → Autostart manager → turn on AURA
- Settings → Battery → High background power consumption → allow AURA
Huawei · Honor EMUI / MagicOS
- Settings → Apps → AURA → Permissions → turn on Display over other apps
- Settings → Battery → App launch → AURA → Manage manually
- Enable Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background
OnePlus OxygenOS
- Settings → Battery → Battery optimisation → AURA → Don’t optimise
- If your build has it, allow AURA in Settings → Apps → App auto-launch
Samsung One UI
- Settings → Battery → Background usage limits
- Make sure AURA is not in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps
- Settings → Apps → AURA → Battery → Unrestricted
Pixel · Motorola · Nothing nothing extra
Nothing beyond the five steps. Do make sure restricted settings is unlocked; step 4 applies to every brand.
What it asks for, and why.
Five are needed for AURA to work at all. Everything else is asked the first time a task needs it, and refusing only removes that ability.
Microphone
Hear your voice commands and talk with you.
Display over other apps
Show the bubble on top of whatever you’re doing.
Accessibility service
See the screen and tap, swipe and type for you, only while running your tasks. Banking and payment apps are always blocked.
AURA Keyboard
Types in React Native and Flutter apps where normal typing fails. No visible keys, never reads what you type, switches straight back.
Notifications
Keep you posted on task progress in the background.
Contacts
Find “Amma” on the device. Numbers never leave your phone.
Notification access
Read and act on notifications. Banking and security ones are filtered out.
Photos, media and files
Find and open files when you ask.
Screen capture
See screens accessibility can’t describe. Asked once per session.
Camera, location, alarms
Flashlight, “where am I”, and exact alarms and timers.
Unrestricted battery
Keep long tasks running with the screen off.
Verify your download
Every release is signed with the same key, and each release page lists the file’s SHA-256. Compare it with yours:

Updates
Apps installed outside the Play Store can’t update themselves. AURA shows a banner when a new version is out. Install it over the old one; your settings, memory and keys stay.
